It’s admirable that we as a population are becoming increasingly environmentally conscious, but those words in the title are often misused and thrown around just a little too casually. This can lead to misconceptions and confusion. Town Supply is here to help clear the air, so to speak, at least in our little corner of the universe. We’ll explain what our product descriptions actually mean so that you can be a smarter consumer and have a better understanding of how your decisions impact our planet.
Town Supply’s RECYCLED products are made using materials certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, ensuring that suppliers are environmentally and socially responsible.
Our COMPOSTABLE products are ASTM and DIN certified to be both non-toxic and capable of breaking down into nutritive soil. Please keep in mind that this certification relates to commercial compost facilities with a controlled environment of microorganisms, heat and moisture. The time it takes for these bags to decompose in your backyard compost bin will vary greatly depending on the conditions.
Although most of our pouches are made from laminates containing materials that are individually RECYCLABLE (aluminum, paper, polyethylene, polypropylene, etc.), this doesn’t necessarily mean that the product as a whole can be recycled. That’s why we recommend contacting your local center or collector to see if they have the capability to process these laminates.
ECO-FRIENDLY, EARTH FRIENDLY, ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY and GREEN are all rather vague terms that can have a variety of meanings depending on context. For example, we believe that the use of any of our stand-up pouches is environmentally responsible because of their unique combination of superior protection from moisture and oxygen (resulting in reduced product spoilage) and low weight (reducing the environmental impact of shipping).
